Hialeah is a city which is located in the county of Dade in Florida. It is situated on a prairie between the Everglades and the Biscayne Bay. The name of this city is supposed to have originated from Muskogee origin, “haiyakpo”, meaning prairie and “hili”-meaning pretty; combining together to form the name of the city which means pretty prairie.

Hialeah is among the Miami metropolitan area and the greater south Florida metropolitan area. It has a whopping population of about a thousand Cuban Americans, making it the city with the second highest number of Cuban American people.

The contributions made by this city in the field of entertainment are considerably good especially in the early ‘20s. Silent movies like ‘The White Rose’ by D. W. Griffith were a part of the media sector. Today, greyhound racing and the Spanish sport of ‘jai alai’ are the major attractions in the sporting sector.

The opening of Hialeah Park, which is also known as the Grand Dame, in 1925 captured a lot of media attention and coverage when it was opened as a horse track. It was one of the most memorable events related to sporting in the city as a lot of famous horse races had been conducted in the 220 acre park. This park was once thought of as the jewel of the city, constructed with Mediterranean style architecture. This park has hosted some of the best thoroughbred horse races ever.

The Miami-Dade County Public Schools serve this city. The school system has a good number of high schools elementary schools and middle schools. The Master Academy Charter School and the Master Academy Middle School are the two charter schools of this city. The city also houses a private school and the Miami-Dade College Hialeah Campus. Roman Catholicism is the main religion of the majority of citizens. The city is ranked to be the fourth most conservative city in the U.S.A.
